With its unusual swollen base, the plant makes an impressive potted specimen. Do not overwater! Established plants can store water for up to one year. Watering every 3 or 4 weeks is sufficient. Slow growing, needs full sun to light shade. While in nature Beaucarnea recurvata can sometimes reach 30 feet in height with a base 12 feet across, the plant will grow nowhere near as large in cultivation -- especially when confined to a container.
